On an October night long ago, when two young men observed an orange cigar shaped object, neither suspected that the sighting would affect one of them for decades.
During the time I’ve been writing this blog, I’ve read many very personal accounts of UFO sightings here in New York. Likewise, I have had the opportunity to personally interview a number of people and record their accounts first hand. During in person interviews, I have frequently noticed a distinctive look that tells me that the witness was deeply moved by the sighting. Similarly, I’ve gotten the same sense from various written accounts. I would like to share with all of you one such account.
30 October 1969: at about 9 p.m., William and Jack had been driving for a while and stopped just south of Fulton for a break. They were near where the Miller Brewery would be built in the mid-1970s.
Suddenly, William glanced up into the night sky and saw a large orange cigar shaped object moving slowly from the north on a trek which would take it southward. William told his buddy Jack to look up at this thing, which he did but it appears that Jack wasn’t too interested.
The thing that amazed William was that the orange cigar shaped object stopped moving and hovered for a few moments. Then they saw the strangest thing, something fell off or was ejected from the main object. As the smaller piece fell toward Earth,
William says, “It burst into flames.”
The pair of young men watched as the orange cigar shaped craft began moving again but not on its original North to South course. The craft slowly started moving back northward, silently until it disappeared from their view as it moved behind some trees.
A disbelieving Jack blew the whole it off as nothing important, but for William the sighting made a lasting impression that has haunted him for years.
“I was really excited and couldn’t take my eyes off it.” William said.
Years later William contacted one magazine about the sighting and was flippantly told, “He saw a flare.”
Ok, let’s do some modern sighting analysis.
Modern aircraft seen from the proper angle have been misidentified as a cigar shaped craft. But on a clear starry night no modern aircraft glows orange. In 1969, the only aircraft that could stop and hover in place were helicopters but again such aircraft do not glow orange in the night sky.
Yes of course Goodyear has been producing and flying blimps of one sort of another since 1919, but again, blimps do not generally glow orange in the night sky*. Also, while such a craft might be capable of hovering in place for short periods, blimps do not have the ability to reverse course without turning like other aircraft. (* Upon rare occasions they have been lit up for advertising purposes.)
As for the piece of something that dropped from the large orange cigar shaped craft, UFOs have been observed to have discharged various things for years. There have been sightings where such UFO craft have discharged chunks of metal similar to the silica carbide deposits found in blast furnaces.
In February 1955, a UFO was sighted in Horseheads, NY and was seen to discharge nylon like, angel hair like substance. In the 1970’s a UFO in New York City was reported to have discharged some sort of green goo. In September 2010, a UFO observed in Brazil was reported to have discharged fire balls.
So did William and Jack see something extra ordinary on that starry October night in 1969? This reporter thinks they did!
Let’s look at some recent New York UFO sightings:
15 August 2014: at about 10:45 p.m. Warrensburg, NY motorist and his wife were driving on Interstate 87 and observed two balls of foggy light playing back and forth. The objects were moving very fast and at times seem to touch.
16 August 2014: at about midnight two Rochester, NY residents witnessed two orange dots moving at incredible high speed south to north toward Lake Ontario. The objects made no sound whatsoever, absolutely quiet.
17 August 2014: at about 9:30 p.m. a resident of Rome, NY sighted three large reddish orange balls of fire hovering in the sky with a golden hue around them.
17 August 2014: at about midnight a couple of Astoria, NY residents observed two orange fiery globes that appeared to be fused in the middle. The couple estimates that the dual globes were approximately twice the size of a helicopter but perhaps larger. It made absolutely no sound.
19 August 2014: at about 9 p.m. a Buffalo, NY resident witnessed several orange fireballs appear twice in sky then silently disappear.
19 August 2014: at about 10:30 p.m. a resident in Tonawanda, NY observed a distinctly orange object or ball of light moving slowly from North to South at what appeared to be high altitude.
