It was another night of reunions, music and dancing on Sunday, April 12, at Pensabene’s Casa Grande, 135 State Fair Blvd., as the recent edition of the History of Syracuse Rock’n’Roll Music Then and Now series presented a pair of longtime favorites. Harmonica impresario Skip Murphy and his Merry Pranksters first took the stage to entertain the sizable crowd, followed by the rockin’ bluegrass sounds of Cross Creek, one of Mike Greenstein’s all-time favorite local acts.

Cross Creek band members were surprised when banjoist extraordinaire Tony Trischka flew in from out of town to rejoin the group for this special night. And the surprises kept coming with appearances from super-producer Peter Asher, who sang the Peter and Gordon hit “I Go to Pieces” with Cross Creek, plus Badfinger’s Jeff Alan Ross.

The History of Syracuse Rock’n’Roll Music Then and Now series, produced by Ron Wray and co-sponsored by WNDR-FM 95.3 (The Dinosaur), Subcat Studios and the Syracuse New Times, rolls on with a May 31 gig featuring the Sandy Bigtree Band, followed June 14 with the return of Carnage. Admission is free.
