    Bethesda Announces Fallout 4

After years of delay and uncertainty, “Fallout 4,” the newest entry in the acclaimed post-apocalyptic role-playing game series, has finally been announced Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the official Fallout website was replaced with a “Please Stand By” test pattern image (pictured above) accompanied by a 24-hour countdown clock. When the clock reached 10 a.m. on Wednesday, viewers were greeted with a three-minute teaser trailer for Fallout 4. The trailer features scenes of a German shepherd wandering through the post-nuclear ruins of Boston, accompanied by flashbacks the city’s destruction.

No release date accompanied the trailer, though the logos that appeared indicate the game is coming to Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms. Presently, there is no indication the game will be released for last-gen consoles (Xbox 360 and Playstation 3), as some had speculated.

This announcement has been long-awaited for fans of the Fallout series, which started with the first Fallout for PCs in 1997. There hasn’t been a new entry in the Fallout series of any kind since 2010’s “Fallout: New Vegas.” Several false alarms and fabricated rumors have raised false hope several times in the last few years, such as the infamous “Survivor 2299” website last year, which appeared to be teasing Fallout 4, but turned out to be a hoax.

Many are surprised Bethesda would make a major announcement like this just two weeks before the annual industry trade show E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), especially since Bethesda is making its first live conference at the event this year. Given that this trailer provides relatively little information about Fallout 4, Bethesda may be planning to give further details at E3.

    Check out the trailer below:
