    Carousel

    This weekend is the last chance to check out Carousel through The Redhouse Arts Center. The famous and beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein production (featuring the “June is Bustin’ Out All Over”) has been receiving favorable reviews through the nonprofit’s production at its new digs at the Civic Center. The large cast, live music and timeless music and story will certainly win you over.

    Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

    The Tennessee Williams drama hits the CNY Playhouse Stage for 10 performances. The evening in the Pollitt family home incorporates themes of death and lies as the patriarch of the family is diagnosed with cancer, yielding a web of deceit among the family members to secure inheritance.

    Coleman’s Block Party

    The Syracuse Irish pub kicks off its seasonal concert series with Dark Hollow, doing their best with covering The Grateful Dead. The show will be held under the pavilion until dark, when patrons can go inside and listen to Virgil Cane at 10 p.m.

    Cuse Comedy Showcase

    Local acts take the stage to compete for a cash prize. The winner is determined by the audience. Dwayne Murphy, Jr., will be headlining. Comics include: Jon Tenace, Travis Worth, Corey Smithson, RJ McCarthy, Phil Cleary, Grant Fletcher, Lauren Turczak

    The Fabulous Ripcords

    In case you may have forgotten, the nationally-known blues and barbecue joint still offers incredible barbecue and great live music. The Fabulous Ripcords will be tearing up the stage on Friday evening after you enjoy your brisket or rack of ribs.

    Ghost Walk

    Join the Onondaga Historical Society as you take “Stroll Among the Spirits” at Oakwood Cemetery. Patrons will be able to meet some of the residents of Oakwood and hear their stories. Tours run every 15 minutes, and reservations are required. For ages 10 and up.

    God of Carnage

    Opening night of Yazmina Reza’s dark comedy about parents behaving badly kicks off at this Ithaca theatre. The ante is upped and the heightening graduates in this farce when one couple confronts another after a bullying incident between their children provokes the parents to intervene. Ithaca is a short distance down the road for a day trip or a weekend adventure.

    Mo Mandel

    The host of Barmegeddon has been seen on a variety of late night shows (Conan, Chelsea Lately), sitcoms (Modern Family), comedy specials. Come check out one of his six shows at Syracuse’s premier comedy club.

    Professional Victims & Papership w/ Flashing Astonishers 

    Triple bill for three Syracuse-based bands for $10 … Talk about a deal. Nothing beats a night out on the town with a few bands, a few beverages, and a few specialty waffles (to share with your friends, of course).

    Syracuse City Market

    It’s the second Saturday of the month, which means the Syracuse City Market will return with its 75 vendors. Come celebrate and enjoy everything that is good about Central New York: food, art, crafts, clothing, jewelry, and the list goes on.

    Festivals

    Great New York State Food & Wine Festival

    Wine, food, vendors from all across New York state can be found at this festival up north. Whether you’re looking for a day trip or a weekend out of town, the Thousand Islands yet again offers much more than the continually popular boat tours.

    Juneteenth

    This year marks the 150th Anniversary of slavery being abolished, and our city and region has significant ties to that freedom and The Underground Railroad. The day-long African American cultural festival will be taking place in Clinton Square from around noon to the evening. Patrons will be able to enjoy food, fun, and music.

    St. Sophia’s Greek Festival

    The four-day festival is will be packed with Greek festivities that include music, dancing and food that is hard to resist: spankopita, gyros, soulvlaki … but don’t forget to save room for baklava and loukoumades. Sometimes it’s best to enjoy it all, because a festival best enjoyed is illustrated by a full belly.

    Up to bat with the Chiefs

    The Chiefs will be taking on the Columbus Clippers from Thurs., June 11 – Sun., June 14, but the games will be in Ohio. The Chiefs do return home on Mon., June 15, to take on the Toledo Mud Hens.
