The other day, an associate from my day job asked me: Do people still see flying saucers?
Taking the question seriously, I consulted with another New Yorker who’s a highly-qualified UFO investigator. We discussed the question of the classic flying saucer. His answer amounted to simply “flying saucers are your granddad’s alien space craft.” He said that for the most part, the huge black triangles have largely replaced the old classic disk, but the fireball UFOs have been filling up the sighting logs.
The theory is that our unknown visitors make improvements and upgrade their transportation periodically as we do; but that’s not the end of the story. While black triangles and other exotic shapes are the hot new craft flying about, there seems to be plenty of older models still out there in the New York skies.
In a recent examination of UFO report archives, the data indicates that New Yorkers are still reporting sightings of flying saucers at a rate of about 25 to 30 per year. The earliest records of flying saucers in New York are from the 1950s.
Here are a couple of older sightings recently recounted by the now elderly New Yorkers:
It was 1950. A crystal clear July night in Upstate New York. A young couple was walking hand in hand, marveling at the beautiful night sky. They saw what they thought was a shooting star. After a few seconds, the small point of light they were looking at suddenly got closer and bigger. The flying saucer hovered right overhead and was estimated to be several hundred feet across. The young couple was terrified. Then, just as fast as it came, it accelerated away and was gone. They rushed home and told their parents. They were cautioned that people would think they were crazy and to not tell anyone.
On June 28 in 1954, near New York City, a group of 16-year-olds were laying on the hood of a car enjoying a clear, starry summer’s night. After some time, they suddenly observed a V-formation of seven bright yellow flying saucers flying eastward at a fast pace. The formation seemed to stop high above them and remained motionless. After a few minutes, two objects separated from the seven crafts and flew north, while another darted off to the south. Minutes later, the three objects returned and rejoined the V-formation which and left the area at tremendous speed.
The most recent sighting of a flying saucer was reported by multiple observers near Rome, NY. On Aug. 5, 2013, a man, his wife and a few friends were enjoying a clear summer’s night on the porch. Suddenly, they saw something odd in the sky. It was disk-shaped UFO that flew in odd, but controlled patterns. His wife grabbed the family’s video camera. They reported that the huge object was bright and eventually flew near their house and silently hovered over it. The man reported that after this occurrence, he, his wife and their friends were without a doubt, believers.
Let’s look at some recent UFO sightings in New York Skies
Aug. 1, 2015: at 9:30 p.m., a resident of Lagrange, NY witnessed multiple red orbs, which moved in a line from below the horizon to the middle of the sky. The lights appeared to be blinking.
Aug. 1, 2015: at 11 p.m., a resident of Mastic Beach, NY observed one green light that changed to a red light. It moved slowly at first, then swirled around rapidly, only to disappear. After several minutes, it reappeared.
Aug. 1, 2015: at 11 p.m., a resident of Hicksville, NY reported a high number of bright-colored orange and yellow lights that flew in formation and slowly moved across the sky from east to west.
Aug. 2, 2015: at 8:40 p.m., a resident of Westbury, NY witnessed three flying orange globes in triangular formation. They proceeded to disappear and reappear in different locations.
Aug. 5, 2015: at 9:15 p.m., a resident of Irondequoit, NY observed five bright red lights that silently flew in a V-formation over Lake Ontario during the night. The formation was also followed by two additional bright red lights.
Aug. 5, 2015: at 9:30 p.m., a resident of Babylon, NY reported a crescent white fireball-shaped UFO in the western horizon.
