Happy October, everyone!
Get with the times — The Autumn Times. Our publication this week features a couple pages of big events in Syracuse and Central New York to look forward to this season, leading up to December. Margaret McCormick and Andrea Parisi also compiled a list of places to escape to go, and they are all in our incredibly photogenic state.
There will be plenty of activities for everyone, every age this weekend. Many of them involve pumpkins. Many involve cocktails. The majority of the events are fundraisers. Not only will you have the ability to enjoy yourselves, you’ll also be supporting great causes.
So, get out there. Just be sure to bring a parka.

NBT Stadium will host more than 40 breweries locally and nationally known. Not a beer lover? Wine tastings will be available.
Those holding VIP tickets will have access to a beer Q&A, batting practice on the field, specialty beers not offered to general admission, pairing dinner, and more. All receive a souvenir 4oz. tasting glass. No children allowed.

Charlie Bertini & AppleJazz Band
The AppleJazz Band has been a Central New York feature since the 1980s. This Saturday trumpeter Charlie Bertini, saxman Dave MacKenzie, trombonist John Allred, guitarist Mark Doyle, bassist Ronnie France, pianist Dave Solazzo, drummer Dave Hanlon, and singer Ronnie Leigh will be taking the stage at Center for the Arts.

Wait. Wasn’t he just here? The son of Gregg Allman returns to Syracuse after headlining the NYS Blues Fest in Clinton Square. Proceeds from this event will benefit next year’s Blues Festival.

Head over to Beaver Lake and enjoy an outing, embrace and enjoy autumn. The paddle will be led by a naturalist, and the sunset will be enjoyed while enjoying included treats. Advanced registration is required.

The annual Critz Farms autumn celebration continues until the end of October, and offers plenty of daily activities. There is an animal care area, pick your own pumpkins and apples, a cow train ride for kids, and plenty more. This year, the local grower has collaborated with Rosamond Gifford Zoo to raise awareness for the efforts of the organization. The eight-acre corn maze this year is “The Giant Zoo-Tastic Octopus’s Garden Corn Maze,” is featured on Critz’s website.

Feminist Friday
Local and statewide feminist bands will be causing a ruckus at the Spark Contemporary Art Space. The show features: Worriers (Brookyln), Green Dreams (Rochester), Malvinas (Syracuse), and The Nudes (Syracuse).

The Brooklyn-based country singer dons many musical hats, but he’ll be showcasing his country prowess at The Nelson Odeon this Saturday.

The Erie Canal Museum will be hosting its very first Locktender’s cocktail party and museum fundraiser Friday evening. Featured beer will be from Eastwood Brewing Company, wine tastings will be provided by Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. Food and dessert/treats will be provided by Karen’s Catering and Speach Family Candy. There will be a silent auction, and patrons will be able to explore the museum. All proceeds benefit the mission and programs of the museum and the only existing weighlock building in the United States.

Mike Goss Memorial MS Comedy Night
Come out to the Cicero American Legion for a night of comedy. The night will be hosted by comedian Steve Rogers and will feature AJ Foster, Dustin Czarny, and headliner Tom Anzalone. All proceeds will go to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Resources of Central New York.

This weekend welcomes another round of Onondaga Historical Association-guided ghost tours. Enjoy the tales of past Syracuse residents, and take a way a significant dose of history. Every 15 minutes a guided tour will take place. This event is for adults only.

The festivals (and tournaments) continue…
The 33rd Annual festival in Downtown Ithaca celebrates not just apples, but agricultural communities and maintaining a local mentality. Enjoy live music, food, and a variety of entertainment — including a juggler.

The largest Central New York pumpkin festival takes place in Oswego’s Washington Park. The annual festival provides plenty of family-friendly activities, rides, food, entertainment, pony rides a pumpkin toss, and much more. There will also be a best-tasting pie contest during the Great Pumpkin weigh-in. The giant pumpkins will be on display on Saturday, Oct. 3 only.

Cortland Great Pumpkinfest
Pumpkin-themed family fun with plenty of food, music, and activities for all to enjoy.

The leaves are changing, and the small western village plenty of elegance to see. Skaneateles Fall Fest kicks off with First Friday at Gallery 54, starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday, for $10, build a scarecrow in Clift Park from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; rain location will be Skaneateles YMCA (97 State St.). Enjoy horse and wagon rides each afternoon, starting at The Sherwood Inn.
