    Thank you for tuning in and referencing our weekly “Inside/Out” newsletter.

    This weekend, you’re allowed to venture and cozy up indoors. With Mexico receiving nine inches of snow, anything can happen.

    The catch is, don’t stay home.

    There are open-air holiday and seasonal events taking place, but the local theaters are packing the weekend with a variety of events to enjoy. With regard to horror films, costume contests, ghost tours, zombie crawls and dances, the Halloween pre-gaming will prepare you mentally for next weekend.

    Let’s not forget: The SALT Awards are this weekend, and there are a variety of shows to see across Central New York. We listed a few, but check our website for more listings.

    “Good Villain”

    In some cases: In order to do something good, you have to be bad. The premiere of the upstate-made movie takes place at The Palace Theatre, kicking off a three-night horror extravaganza.

    Haunted Theatre Tour

    Come take a tour of the 1920s-era theatre. Aside Clarissa, a.k.a. “Lady in White,” there are actually a few friendly ghosts haunting the venue. Follow the link for tickets.

    The intimate 1920s-themed night out — get dressed up in your best roaring threads — and three-course dinner returns for its second year at the local winery.     “Little Shop of Horrors”

    Too bad Seymour didn’t have such a green thumb. He would have saved himself all the trouble off having to keep feeding his unique plant, Audrey II blood. Come check out the comedic musical playing at The Central New York Playhouse, which is playing through Halloween.

    Rock and Roll Freak Show

    The weekend-long events continue with a fighting good concert. Act include Pale Green Starts, Hobo Graffiti, Amerikan Primitive, Spring Street Family Band, and The Stacey White Suite. There will be vendors, costume contests, prizes and more. Follow the link for tickets.

    SALT Awards

    The Syracuse Area Live Theatre (SALT) Awards are taking place this weekend, on Sunday. The votes have been tallied, so come and cheer on the winners of the Central New York performance art scene. Ticket purchase instructions are at the bottom of the page.

    Syracuse University Football

    Pittsburgh returns to take on the Orange. The season isn’t over yet. Cheer on our local college team with hopes for another bowl season.

    Steve Martin’s comedy takes place in Germany and focuses around a wardrobe malfunction pertaining to said article of clothing. Shows run Thursdays to Sundays.

    Wild Adriatic

    The Saratoga Springs-based band returns to Syracuse and takes the stage at Funk ‘N Waffles. If you’ve heard these guys before, seen them at The Westcott and other venues, you know it will be nothing short of a fun time.

    Zombie Ball

    The K-Rock-sponsored dance party will be one of the three Halloween-esque events taking place this weekend at The Landmark Theatre. Come dressed in your zombie best. No biting is allowed … maybe … but makeup artists will be on-site to help transform you. Follow the link for tickets.

    Zombie Crawl

    If you are “Team 95X,” the radio station is holding their annual Downtown zombie-themed bar crawl. Don’t worry if you start late; it shouldn’t be too difficult to catch up.

    Cayo Industrial Warehouse of Horror

    Find out what goes bump in the night, in Utica. If you dare, venture into the Warehouse of Biotech, Warehouse of Archana, Warehouse of Biowar or Warehouse of Revelation.

    Throughout October, head to the New York State Fairgrounds to have the living daylights scared out of you. Venture through the house

    filled with zombies, animals and other horror movie monsters; dare to tussle with a giant; watch your back for the flying monkeys of Grroz; and maybe barter with Letherface. (If it were me, I’d stay very far away from the clown prison. But the curiosity is still there…)

    Howe Caverns Haunted Tours

    “Lizzie Borden Took an Axe”

    The Covey Theatre Company’s tale of murder returns to the historic mansion on James St. for six evenings and two Saturday matinees this month. Unfortunately, it’s the last performance the company will put on.

    The matinees include a member-only talk with the director and cast. Last year’s performances sold out. This year’s have sold out as well.

    As of this afternoon, one more show has been announced for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m.

    Wicked Woods

    The family-friendly outing offers fun for every age. There will be face painting, a trick-or-treat trail, putt-putt on the beach, a haunted trail, and a bonfire to end the evening.

    Zoo Boo

    Stop down for the “kooky, not spooky” daytime Halloween-themed extravaganza. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days this weekend, children dressed up in-costume participate in trick-or-treat and a variety of other activities that include ace painting, animal encounters and demonstrations, raffles and more.

    Enchanted Beaver Lake

    Fall Harvest Celebration

    The annual Critz Farms autumn celebration concludes this weekend. There is an animal care area, pick your own pumpkins and apples, a cow train ride for kids, and plenty more. This year, the local grower has collaborated with Rosamond Gifford Zoo to raise awareness for the efforts of the organization. The eight-acre corn maze this year is “The Giant Zoo-Tastic Octopus’s Garden Corn Maze,” is featured on Critz’s website.
