POINTS OF REFERENCE is a music news blog for people with actual lives and/or short attention spans: a weekly selection of topical, pop music talking points fit for bars and break rooms.

It’s divided into three sections: NEWS (duh), ALBUM RELEASES (once more with feeling), and STUFF AND THINGS (random, music-related crap from the internet). So, I’m all finished up here. Scroll down, won’t you?

    NEWS:

    • Toy company GoldieBlox filed a lawsuit against the Beastie Boys.
    • Morrissey announced that he’s staunchly opposed to presidential turkey pardons of any kind. Thanksgiving is murder, obvs.
    • UnknownThe Walkmen are going on an “extreme hiatus.”
    • Garage rock drummer Dick Dodd passed away.
    • Billy Joel plans to live out the remainder of his life within the confines of Madison Square Garden.
    • “The Punk Singer,” a film detailing the career of Bikini Kill frontwoman Kathleen Hanna, opened in New York.
    • RZA released a tribute track to honor actor Paul Walker whom died in a car accident this past weekend.
    • Spotify explained its royalty system.

    ALBUM RELEASES, DEC. 3:

    Black Flag, “What The…” (SST).

    Britney Spears, “Britney Jean” (RCA).

Glen Hansard, “Drive All Night” (Anti-).

    STUFF & THINGS:

    • The New Yorker published a piece on 1960s session musicians.
    • Respectful Rappers. Sample quote: “If you’re having issues with your partner/ I sympathize with your predicament.”
    • “The Behind-the-Scenes Oral History of “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).”
