With a number of development projects in downtown Syracuse well under way, another housing opportunity is rounding the construction corner in the formerly vacant E.M. O’Donnell building (directly across the street from the art deco era ‘Niagara Mohawk Building’). Creekwalk Commons (324 W. Water St.) will soon become a four story student housing development located one block from the Connective Corridor. A vision of Jim Breuer, the principal and CEO of Heuber Breuer and an S.U. trustee is described as “passionate about bringing what he believes is the final piece to downtown” according to Linda Charles, Vice President of Management at Sutton Real Estate. Despite ties to the orange and blue (or rose pink and pea green if you know your S.U. history), this privately owned apartment complex will be leasing units for students from area colleges and universities who are interested in living out their college experience in an upscale, urban setting.
Having gathered input from current students about which amenities and needs would provide most useful and appealing to college-aged urban dwellers, Creekwalk Commons has plans to include an on-site fitness center, study and workshop areas, a theater and game room, cable and internet, laundry facilities on each floor, storage units, parking and on-site security.
“A discount card program exclusive to Creekwalk Commons residents” is also in the works, explained Valerie Alfieri, also with Sutton. “Were going to be pairing up with restaurants and retailers to give discounts for places students eat, and where they shop.”
Occupancy is slated for August of 2014, with comparable off-campus rental fees starting at $1,050 per month, fully furnished. “We’re having top of the line appliances: stainless steel, granite counter tops, leather furnishings, and queen sized beds” Alfieri described.
Students are invited to stop in during leasing office hours set for Monday, Wednesday and Friday February 3rd through February 7th from 11am – 2pm. Unit options include spacious studios, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments, with the possibility of 2 bedroom suites.
Walking to all that downtown has to offer from restaurants and shopping, live theater, music, film and art, students can also gain advantage from utilizing the free Connective Corridor bus service to and from the S.U. campus. Parking is available in a connected city garage. Indoor bicycle storage units will provide riders a parking spot after using the growing bicycle infrastructure throughout Syracuse and Central New York. With construction and leasing underway, come August 2014, Creekwalk Commons will provide a youthful addition to downtown living in Syracuse.
