POINTS OF REFERENCE is a music news blog for people with actual lives and/or short attention spans: a weekly selection of topical, pop music talking points fit for bars and break rooms. It’s divided into three sections: NEWS (duh), ALBUM RELEASES (once more with feeling), and STUFF AND THINGS (random, music-related crap from the internet). So, I’m all finished up here. Scroll down, won’t you?

    NEWS:

    • San Francisco-based radio station Latino Mix 105.7 played Nelly’s 2002 hit “Hot in Herre” for 24 straight hours.
    • Sarah O’Halla began a blog called “My Husband’s Stupid Record Collection.” The Internet is skeptical.
    • GZA gave a TED Talk. In related news, Grantland staffer Amos Barshad published a fantastic piece on the Wu Tang Clan.
    • The Seattle Police Department reviewed the investigation into Kurt Cobain’s 1994 suicide and released unseen photographs of the scene.
    • Record Store Day approaches.
    • Music nerds at North Carolina State University conducted a study on lyrical thematics.
    • Tyler, The Creator was arrested for inciting a riot. Attorney Perry Q. Minton says lies.
    • Tragedy sullied SXSW.

    ALBUM RELEASES, MARCH 18:

Black Lips, “Underneath the Rainbow” (Vice).

    Foster the People, “Supermodel” (Columbia).

Perfect Pussy, “Say Yes to Love” (Captured Tracks).

    STUFF & THINGS:

    • Techno historian/random, hip photographer Will Calcutt spoke with Nick Paumgarten of  The New Yorker.
    • SPIN published an excerpt from Holly George-Warren’s Alex Chilton biography, “A Man Called Destruction.”
    • “10 Questions That Define You as a Music Fan.”
    • Debbie Harry.
