The Onondaga County Board of Elections is looking for people to serve as election inspectors for Primary Day (Date TBA) and General Election Day (November 3).

State law requires a bipartisan team of four inspectors to staff every polling place. The board is looking for both permanent inspectors as well as substitutes.

“Each year, it’s getting harder and harder [to find inspectors], so we’re starting the whole process early this year,” said Dustin M. Czarny, the Democratic Commissioner of the Onondaga County Board of Elections. Czarny is one of two bipartisan Board of Elections commissioners, alongside Republican Commissioner Helen M. Kiggins.

To qualify to be an election inspector, a person must be registered to vote, be able to serve anywhere in Onondaga County, and be registered as either a Democrat or Republican. The starting pay for the general election will be $190, as well as pay for attendance at training sessions.

“Inspectors are really the backbone of the election process. We have over 2,000 across the county on Election Day. We need to find reliable people willing to serve,” Czarny said.

Persons who are interested in the positions can apply online at http://www.ongov.net or by contacting the Inspector Department of the Board of Elections at 435-3331.
