Baby, it’s cold outside. To help you get used to the return of colder temperatures, here’s a list of things going on this week. Hopefully there are some some unique ones to try out and enjoy.

We have improv and stage antics, outdoor activities for the adventuresome, indoor cozy options for the less tolerant, some are ongoing and some are unique in their own right.

On behalf of the Syracuse New Times staff, I have to thank you for being patient. The new website has taken off with a speedy entrance, and the vehicle has dropped and scattered some debris while finding its footing. We are progressing with its look and maneuverability — especially when it comes to submitting events. Please see more information about submitting at the bottom of this events listing.

I hope everyone’s 2016 is off to a great start!

Trying to submit an event? Frustrated? Irritated?

Here at Syracuse New Times, we value our events calendar. It’s a free listing, and we want you to have easy access to it. Our publication has a strong opinion: If we don’t know what is going on in the area, the vast majority might not know either. Having this calendar is absolutely essential.

After changing over to a new website, a few technological hiccups occurred. The first: Logging in. You are still registered with us, but your password might not be.

    • Go to the top menu bar, hover over “Calendar” and click on “Add Event.”
    • Type in your user name and password.
      • If you’re denied, click “Lost your password?” and request a new one.
      • An email will be sent to you; if it’s not there, check your junk box.
        • Your username will be listed, and a link to reset the password will be provided.
      • If the email doesn’t show, you may have not registered with that specific email.
        • You can register that email address.

After logging in with the user name and new password, you’re ready to add your event for review. Be sure to provide the name of the event, and list the details in the body. You will see two columns.  In the right column:

    • Choose the category (i.e. club dates for all music, outings for outdoor events, stage for plays and musicals, etc.).
    • Pick the start and end dates.
    • Pick the times.
      • Please note the drop-down menu says AM and PM in front of the numeric time, and the numeric value will not be seen after you select it (this is one of the issues we are looking into).
    • Choose the frequency (daily, weekly, monthly) and choose the days of the week if it is a recurring event.
    In the left column:
    • Add a photo (if you so choose).
    • In the following gray bar, add a link to the website or Facebook event.
    • Be sure to add the venue and address next. You have to write/paste it in.
      • If not, no one will know where your event is taking place.
      • I will find you. Don’t make me come over there.
    • Add a phone number if you’d like.
    • Lastly, write in the street address
      • This coordinates with the added map. This way mobile and computer users can get those directions.
Thank you for your patience while we’re adjusting ourselves to make your submission process smoother. Any questions, concerns and rage can be directed to Christopher Malone at [email protected] or by phone: (315) 422-7011 x139.
