    Onondaga County UFO Hot Spots

People are always asking me if Onondaga County has a lot of UFO sightings? I tell them, “YES.” Lately I have begun saying that Onondaga County is one of New York state’s nine UFO hot spots.

The other question I get asked is: Where are the Onondaga County’s UFO hotspots?

To be perfectly honest with you, I really didn’t know until recently. When I was working on a statewide county-by-county UFO sighting tally, I decided to generate another Excel table and sort out Onondaga County’ cities in terms of UFO hot spot sightings. The chart below is the result.

While I expected the city of Syracuse to be a hot spot in terms of sightings, I was a bit surprised to see Liverpool and Baldwinsville to come in second and third, respectively. Beyond the concentration of population here in the city of Syracuse, I have no other explanation as to why it has had so many reported UFO sightings. Frankly, I would’ve thought the outlying towns and villages with less light pollution would have had logged more UFO sightings over time.

Please note from the chart that the data was pulled from the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) and the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) databases. This chart represents the county’s UFO Sightings spanning the years 1890 through 2014.

Let’s look at some recent UFO sightings in New York State:

Nov. 1, 2015: At 5 p.m. a motorist driving on State highway 9N Ticonderoga, NY spotted a large light blue object moving across the sky.

Nov. 4, 2015: At 7:30 p.m., a Cicero resident observed a large rectangular object with four lights hovering about 300 feet from the ground, moving at about the speed of local traffic.

Nov. 7, 2015: At 8 a.m., an East Northport, NY resident reported a bright blue light darting around the sky over the city.

Nov. 7, 2015: At 9:30 p.m., a couple in Batavia, NY reported observing a triangular object flying at tree-top height.

Nov. 8, 2015: At 5:30 p.m., a resident of Swain, NY reported a large black triangle flying slowly over the area. He stated that the object left the area when local helicopters showed up.

Nov. 8, 2015: At 7:30 p.m., a resident of Buffalo observed a large black triangle flying slowly in formation with six bright glowing orbs.

If you are interested in joining a monthly UFO discussion group in the Onondaga County area, drop Cheryl an email [email protected]. If you have a UFO sighting to report, you can use either one of the two national database services: nuforc.org or mufon.com. Both services respect confidentiality.

Cheryl Costa would love to hear the when, where and what of your New York sighting. Email it to [email protected]. The names of witnesses will be omitted to protect their privacy.
