Pop musician Rick Springfield is in Syracuse for the trial of a personal injury lawsuit that claims the artist struck an audience member with his rear end while performing in the crowd during a 2004 Chevy Court concert at the State Fair.

Syracuse.com reports the injury left Vicki Calcagno, of Liverpool, with “serious, disabling and permanent injuries.” Jury selections took place on Monday, Jan. 12, with state Supreme Court Justice Anthony Paris presiding. The trial commenced on Tuesday Jan. 13.

CNYCentral.com reports that three witnesses were called to the stand including Ronald Grinel, Springfield’s tour manager in 2004, Penny Nolan, another concert-goer who was claims she was rear-ended by Springfield and Rick Springfield himself.

Each day, while the trial is ongoing, SyracuseNewTimes.com will share a Rick Springfield music video.

We begin with the most iconic of Springfield’s songs, “Jessie’s Girl,” released in 1981 on the album Working Class Dog. The song also won Springfield a Grammy Award for “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance.”
