For some, nails are for biting. For others, such as Jami Procopio, fingernails are a canvas.

Procopio, of Nail Bang, works out of her Solvay home but will soon open her own salon in the 1400 block of West Genesee Street.

Procopio’s nail art can take two to three hours to create. She has a degree in cosmetology, but taught herself how to sculpt the acrylic nails after a trip to California, where she met a celebrity nail artist whose “nails were off the hook,” she said.

The nails aren’t for everyone.

The decorated nails are “my only accessory,” said Jane Johnson, of Syracuse, a client of Procopio. “I rarely wear jewelry.”
